The Department of Cultural Heritage (DPC) is the scientific coordination body to which the National Research Council (CNR) has assigned the statuary task of define the policy, co-ordinate the research activities of the CNR’s Institutes and develop relationships with public and private, national and international players in the field of cultural heritage.

The aim is to improve the governance of the cultural heritage and landscape in order to increase the economic, social and cultural outputs through the management of national and international projects and the exploitation of its research results.

The established and operative assets of knowledge, skills and technologies of CNR-DPC sets in three strategic lines that represent different aspects of its policy:

  • Methodologies and technologies for the monitoring and preventive maintenance of cultural heritage
  • Holistc strategy for the integrated management and multi-user use of cultural heritage of a territory
  • Process for the enhancement and sustainable development of natural and anthropogenic cultural landscapes.
