Perugia and Spoleto and their Adherence to the “Smart up! The smart cities that drive innovation” project.

Perugia and Spoleto’ cities will take part at the DNA.italia 2011 exhibition by adhering to the “Smart Up! The smart cities that drive innovation” project.
“Smart Up!” is a new exhibition format for those cities which have became a model for the exploitation of their natural and cultural heritage in a bright way.
These two cities represent the Umbrian paradigm excellence which want to take advantage of the technological innovation to enhance the quality’s perception level of their citizens.
By now Perugia is the pioneer’s city in terms of sustainable mobility at the National and European level. This has been possible thanks to the recent opening of the Minimetrò, the innovative monorail ground transportation line, that fits perfectly in the Perugia’s tradition of alternative mobility that is in place from more than twenty years: the first step had been the escalators inside the sixteenth century Rocca Paolina, that also became one of the attractions of the city.

Spoleto has recently open most of their mechanized walkways routes, which represent a further step towards the principle of “city without cars”, a concept that has always inspired the city.
All these innovations radically change the relationship between the city and its users, promoting a new model of urban life, far from the typical concept of an Italian city: congested, polluted and loud. This new model entirely fits with the approach of the Umbria region for the development of its historical center.
In Smart Up! will be discuss all the new innovations that were introduced for the mobility management and their effectiveness; the state of health of the cities related to the presence of these new sustainable mobility measures; the innovative public transportation offering; the project distinctive features (taken care by the local administration itself); the synergy/participation of the companies involved in the different phases of the works and its positive worthiness both on the ties between the city and his residents (thanks especially to the new way of understanding urban space) both on the economical spillover resulting from the increase of tourism attractiveness.
