Although the “heritage industry” has recently experienced an increasing attention by analysts and scholars, many important issues related to the enhancement of cultural resources are not  adequately addressed in terms of public policies. This gap is evident, for instance, in relation to the setting up of effective and efficient programs for managing cultural sites and measuring their impacts on local economic systems.  A number of case studies, including some from the UNESCO World Heritage List, will be presented as pilot experiences in this perspective.
